Gruber strong at penultimate Formula Ford test
The Austrian also showed great form at the latest test days in Northern Ireland
Nico Gruber, who will make his debut in the British Formula Ford 1600 this season, was in top shape at the test on the demanding Kirkistown Circuit in Northern Ireland.
The 16-year-old Austrian selected the unrhythmical and weather stricken track outside Belfast for his penultimate preseason test.
In the three days of testing, Gruber experienced all four seasons from sleet to bright sunshine.
“It was pretty odd how quickly the weather changed, but our team boss told me that that’s typical of Britain. Thus, my prepration has been perfect”, the teenager smiled.
Not only was his preparation perfect, but also Gruber’s pace was, competing against last year’s race winner Jamie Thorburn.
“I had to work hard to reach his pace in wet conditions, but on a dry surface our lap times were identical”, the rookie added.
Also team boss Cliff Dempsey was “more than happy. Nico has been developing quickly and we are confident that he will have a good maiden season.”
The British Formula Ford 1600 championship takes off on March 31 on the F1 track at Silverstone.
