Gruber sets bar even higher in Schottland
Rookie Nico Gruber showed excellent form at the second round of the British Formula Ford Championship earning towo P4 finishes
Following his great debut in the British Formula Ford at Silverstone last month, Nico Gruber has set the bar even higher at on the second racing weekend. At the Scottish Knockhill Circuit the Austrian pocketed two P4 finishes and a ninth place.
Hence, the 16-year-old Central European Kart Champion is already among the top rookies in FF1600 history, a series in which F1 legends like Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell and Jenson Button have learned the trade.
„We have been working on the setup a lot in the training sessions and found the perfect balance for qualifying. Starting from the front row was really cool. P4 in two runs was OK, because the inner line at the start was dirty and thus slower. In the third race of the weekend, I had to sail around two collisions in front of me, which cost me some spots. But on the whole, it was a great weekend and the next step forward“, Gruber said.
Team boss Cliff Dempsey was far less self-critical saying: „Nico is developing really well. Not only is he mighty quick, he is also consistent and takes very mature decisions concerning risk taking considering his young age. He did a great job to qualify second against the best FF1600 drivers in the world.“
Gruber has totalled 82 points for P9 in the overall standings and is dominating the rookie category.
The next races of the Avon Tyres British Formula Ford Championship take place at the DTM circuit of Brands Hatch on June 2/3.
